100 Things

Inspired by Jest's list, I thought I'd do one for myself. So here you are, 100 things you didn't know, and possibly didn't need to know about me:

  1. I have a bellyring and four holes in each ear. I only use one hole in each ear now.
  2. I would never pierce any part of me that is generally moist.
  3. I have a tattoo on my lower back that I got eight years ago. I might one day get one more, but two is my limit.
  4. Before Mr Ruby Slippers, I had only two proper boyfriends.
  5. The first one broke my heart and it took me over a year to get over it.
  6. He recently got married wearing a Star Trek uniform, and I thought, "Thank goodness he dumped me!"
  7. The second boyfriend broke up with me by never calling me again. So technically we're still going out.
  8. Mr Ruby Slippers is the only man I've ever had sex with. We didn't wait until marriage, but I'm glad we waited for each other.
  9. I have a fear of vomit. Yes, I can admit it now - thanks, Jest!
  10. When I was little I used to pretend the net curtain in my mother's bedroom was my wedding veil. My real one was better!
  11. I am in love with old movie musicals.
  12. I have started writing over 30 books (at least).
  13. I have written two complete books, both aimed at young girls, both horribly plagiarised from other books. I was 12 and 15 respectively when I finished them.
  14. I love animated movies, but only the good ones (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty & The Beast, 101 Dalmatians, Shrek (the first one), The Road to El Dorado, Monsters Inc, The Incredibles, Wall-E...)
  15. I used to be obsessed with The Gummi Bears. I can quote a number of episodes by heart.
  16. I am freaked out by crowds. I'm not afraid of them as such, they just make me really confused and bombarded and weird.
  17. I much prefer second-hand bookshops to new ones.
  18. I collect old British schoolgirl stories (usually dating from the 1920s to the 1950s)
  19. I hate marmalade and I find jam too sweet, usually.
  20. I don't like bread, only toast.
  21. My favourite toast spread is marmite.
  22. My favourite chip flavour is salt & vinegar.
  23. I hate change.
  24. I am incredibly lazy. Vacuuming the stairs takes 10 minutes, but I can put it off for weeks.
  25. I have never had a job I liked.
  26. If I didn't have a job, I would never ever get bored, as some people claim to.
  27. Mr Ruby Slippers and I own over 700 dvds, including film, tv and documentaries.
  28. We are nerdy enough that we keep the collections we brought to the relationship separate, with a third "shared" area. Anything we get for gifts individually goes into our own collections.
  29. This means that we occasionally argue about who gets the new dvd that we both want.
  30. I hate going out at night, unless it's somewhere really awesome.
  31. I inherited my love of books from my father, but he's worse than I am.
  32. I am addicted to chocolate. I cannot go one day without it.
  33. I don't drink alcohol, but mostly because I hate the taste.
  34. I hate drunk people. I especially hate it when people go out with the express purpose of getting drunk.
  35. My handwriting is appalling.
  36. I don't drink fizzy drinks; they make me feel sick and bloated.
  37. I don't like hot drinks.
  38. The only things I do drink are water, squashes, fruitjuice and flavoured milk.
  39. I have a hiatus hernia.
  40. If I get stressed, I feel nauseous and my stomach aches.
  41. I get stressed a lot.
  42. I never let go of grudges. Yes, I know. I'm trying.
  43. I can cry at the drop of a hat.
  44. I only like the black jelly babies/fruit pastilles/wine gums.
  45. I don't like cake, but I love tarts and desserts.
  46. When we eat out in a group, it is always my meal that arrives wrong, late, or not at all.
  47. I will always order the one thing on the menu that contains something they've run out of.
  48. I don't think I believe in a higher power/being/creator, but I'm honestly not sure.
  49. I was raised Catholic and went to church every Sunday growing up.
  50. The only part of church I liked was the hymns.
  51. I hate gospel music and "praise & worship".
  52. I sing all the time, everywhere. I have songs on repeat in my head.
  53. Mr Ruby Slippers will trick me into singing something by saying a word or line from a song. Then he will do a little countdown to see how long it takes me, and laugh at me.
  54. Someone I am close to loves acting, and I haven't got the heart to tell them they are terrible at it.
  55. It's not Mr Ruby Slippers. He is such a good actor. He has really great comic timing (I know, that' s not about me, but I'm so proud of him!)
  56. I am scared of posessed toys, creepy children and clowns.
  57. I have never watched even one of a horror slasher film series like Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, etc. Or any Stephen King-based film, except the non-scary ones like The Green Mile.
  58. I don't particularly like people...I find too many of them annoying or stupid.
  59. I can't stand stupidity. I can't believe how many people are just bloody morons.
  60. I don't believe people should be allowed to vote without a certain level of formal education.
  61. I love spearmint but dislike regular peppermint.
  62. I find most "great classic" novels boring. Except Jane Austen.
  63. I adore Judy Garland. I can't take my eyes off her when she's on screen. And her voice was perfection until the late 1940s.
  64. I also adore Bette Davis. Clearly it's all about the big eyes for me.
  65. Actors I have been obsessed with, to the point of fantasising about marrying them, include Alan Rickman, Colin Firth, Matthew Perry, Eric Stoltz, Zach Braff, Kevin Spacey and Hugh Jackman. (some oddness there, I know)
  66. Alan Rickman and Hugh Jackman are the only ones still on my "List".
  67. Two of the other three (we're only allowed five here, people!) are Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt, but the 5th spot is my "open to change" one.
  68. If I had to have a same-sex dalliance, I'd pick Emma Thompson.
  69. Even though Kate Beckinsale is totally hot in Underworld.
  70. My favourite sitcoms are Friends and The Nanny.
  71. My favourite getting-together scenes are Beatrice and Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, and Edward and Elinor in Sense & Sensibility. Clearly this has something to do with the Emma Thompson love.
  72. I met my best friend because of a random quote from one of our favourite movies.
  73. I feel tired most of the time.
  74. I love food and eating, but I'm very disinterested in cooking.
  75. My favourite meal is roast lamb with potatoes, but only if it's homemade.
  76. My favourite eating-out meal is fillet steak with roquefort and cranberry sauce, with roasted vegetables, from a yummy restaurant called Salsa.
  77. I own only one pair of high heels, because I only wear heels for very formal events.
  78. When I sleep on my right I need to have my hands up next to the pillow. When I sleep on my left I don't.
  79. My sister and I are pretty much scarred for life by the animated tv show of The Yearling. It was the most horribly miserable thing we'd ever seen. (And I just found out this minute it was originally Japanese)
  80. I hated Seinfeld and Everybody Loves Raymond.
  81. I am so upset that Pushing Daisies has been cancelled. I was in love with the cute bright quirkyness of it.
  82. I love sushi with salmon and avocado. I pretty much stick to those, and crab, when I eat sushi.
  83. I firmly believe that weekends should be three days long, because two is not enough to recover and prepare.
  84. I'm on Jennifer's side - that Angelina may be a stunner, but I hate her.
  85. When I was about seven or eight, we had ten pets, all of whose names began with "S".We had to spell the name 'Cynthia' as 'Sinthia' to accomplish this.
  86. All of my grandparents died before I was twenty.
  87. I find small children incredibly annoying.
  88. Christmas Trees and traditional carols make my happy.
  89. My latest addiction is coconut yoghurt from Woolworths Food.
  90. I cannot stand R & B. What the hell are they whining about, and why would I care?
  91. I'm depressed that our trip to Paris in 2002 got cancelled, because I've still never been to Europe outside of England.
  92. I hate hot weather and I hate cold weather. I want to live permanently in spring, but Johannesburg doesn't get much spring or autumn, it just jumps from hot to cold, really.
  93. When I get sick a part of me is thrilled because I won't have to go to work.
  94. I have called in sick when I wasn't, because I couldn't face going to work.
  95. I don't do sports. I don't even watch finals and world cups etc on tv.
  96. I don't watch tv on tv anymore. We get our shows downloaded with no ad breaks and watch them on our computers.
  97. When I was at university, I had a huge crush on a guy in my class. He is now the lead singer in a pretty popular SA band. I keep wishing I'd dated him so I could show off.
  98. I can quote pretty much all of The Princess Bride, word for word. My sister amused ourselves once on a long hike by doing this.
  99. I hate camping.
  100. I think I have a bladder infection right now.

  1. Oh, I love these lists! I think they're just fun. It's funny, there was so many things on your's that made me say "Me too!!" I have also attempted to write several books, but only completed one (also horribly plagiarized) when I was about 14. I've thought about writing another one, but who has the time. And, I'm totally with you on the not being bored if I didn't have to work. I know that I could deal with it. As for a same sex dalliance...I'd go for Blake Lively, I'm all about Gossip Girl.
Thanks for posting this, lots of fun!!!
