Fifteen of the Best: Veils

I had so much fun the other day with my favourite hanging dress shots, that I've decided to do it every day until I run out of themes!

Today's theme: Veils! I was going to separate it into flying Veils and Kissing Under the Veil, but some fell into both those categories, so I decided just to stick to pictures where veils in general are the main feature.

What now?

For weeks I've had this annoying, listless, "I don't know what to do now" feeling about the wedding. In fact, I really wanted it to be closer so that I could the heck ON with it and do the last minute stuff! Now it's 23 days away and that's beginning to look a little...scary.

What I really want to do is organise the table lists so that I can print all the place cards and table name listings for our hanging crystal lists. But I can't DO that because apparently we didn't invite enough people to our wedding, and in order for us to keep to our minimum of 70 (we couldn't get the venue without paying for 70 people) we have to create a B-list. Which, frankly, I didn't think was necessary to begin with because everyone has been saying All Frikkin Year that they would definitely be there, and when it comes to crunch time suddenly they have to go visit their son in Ireland or go organise their Italian pension or stay behind because their daughter has an exam that day. Blah, blah, whatever, all I care about is that you're not coming. And not only am I disappointed that you're not coming, I'm flipping out because I now have to find a replacement for you who is not going to be offended that they weren't invited first time round.

So far it's not going well. Three couples on the B-List have declined; not, I think, because they were offended and all "You didn't invite me originally so now I'm not coming, nyeh nyeh!", but because they genuinely can't make it. Because, you know, it's in TWENTY-THREE days. So we have one more couple and one single who need to confirm, and then I have noooo idea who to fall back on. I might have to delve into my facebook friends list and invite arbitrary people from high school, or something. :-(

This really sucks. I know I have a small family, but the fact that none of them (aside from my parents and sister, and one Aunt who is actually my Mom's cousin) are coming is a little sad. But I'll be damned if I'm paying for dinner for someone who isn't even there! I might have to ask the singles to drum up dates...because no matter what, we're paying for seventy people, so they might as well be there to eat it, even if we've never met them.

Sigh. Who knew it was this hard to get people to share in your joy and eat a free meal and have a fun party?

Ten of the Best...ok, Fifteen of the Best

I've noticed in my epic blogstalking and trigger-happy right-click finger that there are certain types of wedding shots I just love. The hanging dress? Yum. The bride silhouetted in a window? Drool. Flying veil? Yes please. Rings in a cute place? Aww. You get my drift.

So I decided to make today's photo of the day a Theme of the Day, rather. What better way to showcase the awesomeness of all my hundreds of favourite photographers by choosing my favourite ten, fifteen, twenty, however many shots of the same type.

So today I've decided to do the hanging dress shots. You've seen some of these before, but these are my top 15. That I've seen. I've no doubt there are tons out there that could knock these flying, which is why I'm compelled to look at blogs all day, every day. I'm searching for that perfect shot. Because what if I MISS it???

Classic Engagement Teaser

Knowing what a dedicated blogstalker I am, our fabulous photographer, Tanja Vogt, posted five teasers from Friday's classic engagement shoot today! All I can say is:

Oh. My. God.

First up, I do NOT generally photograph well. I always have this silly blank look, or I appear to have a hot potato in my mouth, or I just close my eyes at an inopportune moment and look vaguely drunk. But these turned out sooo spectacularly! Not only was it my dream to look like a 1940's film star (Veronica Lake, eat your heart out!), but I just really wanted fantastic photos of myself and Mr Ruby Slippers. Well, I have succeeded on both counts!

Ok, so Tanja has succeeded, really. Because no way do either of us look this good without some pretty impressive camera and editing skills. Seriously, WOW. We are both in awe. I'm already planning the matching picture frames.

Isn't Veronica Lake soooo gorgeous? Anyway, these are just the first five teasers, but this is what we got:

Be safe, dress!

I had to drop off my dress at Bride & Co today for the final alterations. When I first picked it up in May (or was it June?) my consultant suggested that I wait until a few weeks before my wedding to have the dress shortened, in case I lost weight and needed it taken in as well. That way they could do both at the same time. Well, as it turns out, I haven't lost any weight (as if), so all that needs doing is hemming. I just really hope they don't screw up the beautiful lace edging on the overlay. And it sounds nuts, but I'll really miss my dress and worry about it until it's returned safely to me. Two weeks. Gulp. I don't know if I can go that long worrying about it. I mean, anything could happen to it there - they could dirty it, tear it, lose it, accidentally give it to someone else...

Double gulp.

So earlier I started thinking about what Miss Avo/Jenna said about there not being that many split-front dresses out there. So I did a quick google, and, boy, is she right. There isn't much, and what there is is, well, kind of crappy.

A poofy cinderella split-front? Now this was new to me, but I don't like it:

Hmmm. I know you can't even see clearly that the first and last dresses are split-front, but they are. It's interesting, though, that the ones I like are all flowing, Austen-esque, Grecian goddess-type dresses, whereas mine has a much fuller skirt. Aarrgh! Should my skirt be less poofy?? Should I cut out the netting inside! I don't want to do that - it's kind of drastic. But wouldn't like it more if was, well, smaller?? Like these other ones? What do I do?

*Breathe*.

Photographer Friday

Today is exactly four weeks from my wedding.

OMG.

We had our e-shoot today, but I won't blog about it till I get the photos. I am exhausted though, but it was totally fun! It was so great to have a preparation for the Big Day (I've never had professional photos taken before) and it was fab to be able to do all sorts of kissy-kissy stuff with Mr Ruby Slippers (who, on the way home, said "I don't kiss you on the neck enough." Awwww.)
